Extended Teaching Literacy Online Professional Development

Many instructors who are teaching online lack experience, and extended structure and support, but they have an intense desire to do it well.
They understand that pandemic teaching was not online teaching.
They understand if the last time they taught online was before AI, that things have changed.
They understand that putting their courses online means more access to the students who need the most access.
But they need support and so many institutions don't have the instructional design teams necessary to do it well.
Who are we?
We are the authors of Teaching Literacy Online: Engaging, Analyzing, and Producing in Multiple Media, the 2025 winner of the Divergent Publication Award for Excellence in Literacy in Digital Age Research, and have 41 years of experience designing and delivering online literacy and writing courses. We have publications in various journals and edited collections, and have served as Director of Online Writing Instruction at an R1 institution.
We have extensive experience supporting instructors teaching online through various types of professional development programs, and we both earned Quality Matters Master Reviewer Certifications.
More importantly, we love this work. Teaching and learning online is our favorite and we look forward to sharing our experience and excitement with others.
What do you get?
This semester long (16-Weeks) experience that includes
A getting started online synchronous workshop (2.5 hours)
Weekly asynchronous tasks and support
3 once a month synchronous support calls (1.5 hours each)
End of program synchronous celebration/debrief (1.5 hours)
Through these experiences, you'll gain a course map, support while you build your course, plans for evaluating the success of course elements, and strategies for managing workload and establishing boundaries.
Every participant will also receive a copy of TLO and an Instructional Design book that has impacted our Online Teaching and Learning.
